Privacy Policy

Last updated: 7 June 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how the True Duplicate Video Cleaner app ("the app", "we", "us") handles your information. The app is developed by the developer of True Duplicate Video Cleaner and published on Google Play.

By installing and using the app you agree to this policy.

The short version

  • The app runs entirely on your device.
  • It does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any personal data.
  • It has no internet access, no user accounts, no ads, and no analytics or tracking SDKs.
  • The videos it reads never leave your device.

What the app accesses, and why

To find duplicate videos, the app needs to read the video files in the folders you choose. Specifically:

  • Your video files. When you select one or more folders, the app reads the videos in them so it can compare them. Comparison is done by generating "fingerprints" — a quick partial hash, an audio fingerprint, and per-frame visual hashes — and checking which videos match.
  • Basic file information such as file size, duration, resolution, and last modified date, used to group and compare candidate duplicates.

All of this reading and comparison happens locally on your device. The app does not upload your videos or any information about them to any server.

Information we collect

None. The app does not collect personal data, does not require an account, and does not include any advertising, analytics, crash-reporting, or tracking libraries. Because the app has no internet permission, it is technically unable to send any data off your device.

Data stored on your device

To avoid re-analyzing the same files on every scan, the app saves the fingerprints it computes in a private database on your device (trueduplicate.db). This data:

  • stays in the app's private storage,
  • is never transmitted anywhere,
  • is removed when you uninstall the app.

Deleting videos

When you choose to delete duplicate videos, the app uses Android's standard system mechanisms:

  • On Android 11 and newer, files are moved to the system trash via Android's built-in delete confirmation, so they can be recovered for a period of time.
  • On Android 8–10, the app asks you to confirm, then removes the selected files.

The app only deletes the files you select for deletion.

Permissions we request

PermissionWhy
Read access to videos (READ_MEDIA_VIDEO, and on older Android READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE) To scan the folders you choose and read video files so duplicates can be detected.
Selected media access (READ_MEDIA_VISUAL_USER_SELECTED) Supports Android's "limited access" option so you can grant access to only some videos if you prefer.
Write access on Android 8–9 (WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE) Required only to delete the duplicate files you choose to remove on those older versions.

Children's privacy

The app is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect any data from anyone, including children.

Security

Because the app processes everything locally and stores nothing off-device, your video content is never exposed to us or to any third party.

Changes to this policy

If the app changes in a way that affects this policy — for example, if a future version introduces advertising — we will update this policy and the "Last updated" date above before that version is released.
